Essex County
Gazette
Serving Essex County Since 1989 Beverly,
Massachusetts 01911
Founded on April 21, 1989 the Essex County Gazette was a small, weekly publication that focused on
local events and news in the North shore of Essex County. The Gazette stopped
publication on June 10, 2006.
Like so many other newspapers, large and small, the Essex County Gazette succumbed to the economic pressures, new innovations in news media, and general lack of subscription by the population. Founded by the owner and editor, Peter Blackwell, the Gazette's offices and printing facilities were housed in various locations in the Greater Beverly area over the years. Peter left in 2000 due to health reasons and Anne Pelliter became editor and oversaw the daily operations. The Gazette maintained a small staff and received most of its' information from the courts and public municipalities, as well as contributions from concerned citizens with news worthy information. Peak circulation in the 90s reached 2,000 regular subscribers and 4,000 on newsstand distribution. Some articles and editions after 2000 have been archived on line but most were not. Prior to 2000 no news was posted on our website. Anyone interested in researching past articles should contact Ms Anne Pelliter at the below email address.
